It is widely accepted that young people are significantly influenced by their peer group and pop culture, which at times can create behavior that is uncommon for that child. As young people seek greater independence and social acceptance, their choices about certain behaviors can come into question. Wise parents will monitor their teen’s behaviors more closely to see if they are approaching “at risk” behaviors. In this course, parents will be provided with a step-by-step approach to differentiating less harmful, predictable adolescent experimentation from potentially serious or dangerous behaviors. Practical strategies for parents to effectively address risky teenage behaviors are also presented in this course.
-
Distinguish "at risk" behaviors from "normal" adolescent behaviors. You will learn observational techniques that will help you make this vital distinction.
-
Develop self-awareness. You've looked outward at your child, but you also have to look inward. That means taking some risks of your own.
-
You will learn about - and we hope, learn - essential general communication skills, such as active listening, reflection, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.
-
You will learn the four Ps and how to give yourself the time to understand that you and your child have limits and must work together.
