The subject matter of this course is based upon the fact that children want and need appropriate parental role models in their life. What may be surprising to many parents is that recent surveys of teenagers have uncovered evidence that children look to their parents as their best source of role models. At FamilyIQ, we want to applaud parents’ efforts to stand as role models for their children, and for holding the line when doing what’s best rather than what is more popular.
Do you know what kind of role model you present to your children? Your values, choices, behaviors and beliefs help form the basis for your child's identity. This course focuses on the many ways in which parents consciously and unconsciously provide role models for their children, and will help you examine your values and behavior so you can present the best of you towards your children.
Course Benefits
In this course you will learn how your values and behavior directly affect your children. You will learn:
§ Parents (primary caregivers) serve as life-models for their children by demonstrating ways to relate to oneself and to the rest of the world.
§ The way that a person relates to the world-at-large is greatly impacted by what that person learns from his parents.
§ What are your current attitudes toward gender behavior? You need to know your current position on this topic before you can adapt your own behavior to be flexible.
§ Examine your values and behavior and what you are teaching your children. Individual temperament, biology, and cultural factors influence how we experience problems.
§ By taking care of yourself, you are setting an example for your children that you value yourself and that they should value themselves.
§ Learn to apply the tactics learned in this course to your daily life.
